AI Agents: Anthropic Targets Business Users with New Duet App

Anthropic has launched Claude Duet, a specialized agent designed for professionals and small businesses that prioritizes background task automation over personal errands.

The landscape of artificial intelligence is rapidly evolving as the industry moves beyond simple conversational chatbots toward autonomous agents that can execute complex workflows. In the latest move to capture this growing segment, Anthropic has officially introduced Claude Duet, a new application designed to compete directly with a crowded field of emerging rivals.

The launch places Claude Duet in direct competition with several high-profile products, including Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo. While the market is saturated with new tools launching weekly, Anthropic is aiming to differentiate its product by focusing specifically on the needs of professionals and small businesses rather than the general consumer market.

Anthropic has drawn a clear line between Duet and personal productivity assistants like Instinct. The company notes that Duet is not optimized for handling personal errands, such as booking travel tickets, nor does it provide a live visual feed of its browser activity. Instead, the tool is engineered to build daily briefings, generate data dashboards, and suggest actionable steps based on the user’s existing information.

A core feature of the new agent is its ability to operate independently. Duet can complete tasks in the background within its own virtual machine, allowing users to focus on other responsibilities. The agent will only interrupt the user if a specific decision or approval is required, streamlining the workflow for busy professionals.

The timing of this release coincides with a broader industry shift toward business-centric AI solutions. While Meta’s Muse is primarily a personal assistant, the company has also released a version tailored for small businesses with app connections. Similarly, OpenAI’s Dots leans into business use cases through its integration with professional software tools.

Under the hood, Claude Duet is built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model. It leverages a vast ecosystem, connecting to more than 6,000 connectors and plug-ins available in the Claude Marketplace. This connectivity allows the agent to perform a wide range of functions, including making online purchases on behalf of users via Stripe’s Link digital wallet or Shopify’s Shop Pay.

To manage risk, Anthropic has implemented specific guardrails for sensitive operations. While Duet can initiate payments, these steps require explicit user approval. The agent is restricted from trading securities or moving funds between bank accounts, ensuring that financial control remains with the human user.

Security is also a priority, with the introduction of a new classifier that scans each message to prevent the leakage of sensitive data. By default, the agent is programmed to decline requests that ask for credit card numbers or government identification numbers, adding an extra layer of privacy protection for users.

Claude Duet is currently available in a research preview for Pro and Max customers. It can be accessed via the web through Claude.ai or as a dedicated app on iOS and Android. Due to the preview status, interested users must currently join a waitlist to gain access to the platform.
